Lexus has refined its technology offerings across its model range by introducing a raft of user-friendly safety, luxury and performance advances.
The Lexus rear-view camera, an Australian first when introduced on the RX330
SUV in April 2003, is now also available on the LS430 and LX470 luxury
four-wheel drive.
Lexus' latest electro multi-vision (EMV) development forms the touch-screen
technological hub, replacing many dash-mounted controls.
On the RX330 Sports Luxury model, LX470 and LS430 the seven-inch screen
switches to rear-view camera when reverse is engaged, while also housing
controls for the audio system, climate control and Sat Nav.
The EMV screen on the LX470 and LS430 has Bluetooth handsfree mobile phone
capability and Lexus' new generation 03 Sat Nav, which has 25 percent faster
route search and more intuitive controls than the previous version.
LX470 and LS430 drivers using a compatible, connected Bluetooth mobile phone
can make and receive calls via the EMV and/or steering column telephone button -
without even taking their mobile phone out of their pocket.
LS430 drivers can also take advantage of the EMV touch-screen graphics to
tailor the 11-speaker Mark Levinson stereo system to direct optimum sound
quality to each of the four passenger zones.
The EMV screen can also access audio controls and full climate control air
conditioning.
Lexus LS430 has front and rear bumper-mounted parking sonars to alert the
driver - though a series of beeps and car frame graphics on the EMV - when the
car gets too close to an object.
Parking sonars and graphics activate on pre-set clearance areas around the
car.
LS430 drivers can "see around" corners with intelligent adaptive headlights
that swivel according to information fed from the steering angle sensor and
front-wheel speed sensors.
The right-hand lamp has a range of 15 degrees movement and the left-hand lamp
a range of five degrees, with the feature beginning operation at more than
10km/h.
Active cruise control, also introduced on the LS430, can automatically reduce
or increase speed to maintain a set distance to the vehicle ahead - compensating
for its speed changes.
Lexus has increased passenger safety with a breakthrough driver knee airbag
on RX330, and driver and front passenger knee airbags on LS430
