The all-new Nissan Maxima has arrived, redefining accepted concepts of contemporary design and offering a new level of modern luxury to Australian drivers.

Designed with the theme of "luxury living", the all-new Maxima reveals the revolultion that has taken place in the international design studios of the Nissan Motor Co.

The external design of the vehicle projects an impression of strength and agility by combining a low-profile stance with a streamlined cabin design. The beautifully balanced exterior creates a sense of dynamism while hinting at the exceptional interior roominess and comfort.

Inside, the application of high-quality fabric and leather and woodgrain finishes creates an ambience of stylish modern furnishings.

Concealed beneath the curving bonnet of the all-new Maxima lies a powerful

3.5-litre V6 engine - also found in the Nissan 350Z Coupe and Roadster - which generates 170kW of power @ 5600rpm and 333Nm of torque @ 2800rpm.

This sophisticated VQ35DE engine is from Nissan's acclaimed VQ engine family, chosen as one of the world's "Ten Best" engines by Ward's AutoWorld for nine consecutive years.

Offered in three highly specified variants - the stylish ST-L, the prestigious Ti and the luxurious Ti-L - the all-new Maxima is testament to Nissan's commitment to deliver exciting and attractive new vehicles with unprecedented levels of style, safety and comfort.

Safety is a key design component of the all-new Maxima. The vehicle's impressive Control Safety System offers greater control and stability through the application of Electronic Brake Distribution, an Anti-lock Braking System, Brake Assist and Vehicle Dynamic Control.

Driver and passenger safety is enhanced through the Impact Safety System which includes a rigid body construction, active front headrests, front seatbelt pretensionsers, three-point rear centre seatbelt and dual front and side airbags. Curtain airbags are offered as an option on the ST-L variant and are standard on Ti and Ti-L versions.

Available with a standard European gate-style electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission with lock-up torque converter, the all-new Nissan Maxima boasts speed sensitive power-assisted rack and pinion steering, independent suspension with MacPherson struts (front) and multi-link coil springs (rear), coupled with front and rear stabiliser bars.

Braking is via four-wheel disc brakes and all variants bear 17x7JJ lightweight eight-spoke aluminium alloy wheels and 215/55R17 93V tyres.

The all-new Maxima's entry-level variant, the ST-L, offers all the appointments one would expect from a prestige vehicle - dual-zone automatic climate control with rear outlets, power windows, central locking with remote keyless entry, eight-way adjustable driver's seat, drive computer, luxury fabric trim, wood grain finish, leather steering wheel and shifter and four-speaker AM/FM radio/CD player.

The ST-L's stylish exterior is enhanced by body coloured power mirrors and front and rear bumpers, front fog lights, chrome grille and door handles, dual exhaust outlets and standard metallic paint.

The Maxima's Ti variant adds an electric glass sunroof, full leather trim, six-stacker CD player with six-speakers, four-way power adjustable front passenger seat, overhead console, adjustable rear headrests and side curtain airbags.

And the all-new Maxima's range-topping Ti-L variant adds the final touches to the design concept of "luxury living", including a state-of-the-art rear seat entertainment unit incorporating a DVD/VCD/CD/MP3 player with infrared headphones and ultrasonic rear parking sensors.

The all-new Maxima comes standard with a selection of metallic-finishes, including Platinum, Sapphire Black, Harvest Gold, White Diamond, Burgundy and Fountain Blue.

Purchasers of the all-new Maxima will be pleasantly surprised by the attractive recommended retail pricing of the vehicle, with the ST-L available from just $39,990, the Ti at $45,990 and the luxurious Ti-L at $48,990*. The optional Safety Pack for the ST-L is offered at $1,000.

Paul Stead, Nissan's director of sales and marketing was delighted to add the all-new Maxima to the company's Australian line-up.

"The Maxima range has long been applauded for its refinement and smooth yet powerful engine. The all-new Maxima takes these attributes and builds on them, offering increased performance and an elegant and stylish design different to the traditional luxury car concept."

Launching the new vehicle in Melbourne recently, Nissan Australia's managing director and chief executive officer, Leon Daphne commented on Nissan's exciting new product range.

"Nissan is forging ahead in the international automotive industry, and this growth is fuelled by the introduction of attractive new products, such as the 350Z Sports Coupe and Roadster and the all-new Nissan Maxima," Mr Daphne said.

"We expect this trend to continue and are currently evaluating additional products for our future Australian line-up - products which comply with our international commitment to bringing attractive, innovative and affordable new vehicles to the market."

"Modern Luxury" concept underpins design of the all-new Nissan Maxima

Central to the development of the all-new Nissan Maxima was the commitment to provide a prestige vehicle with a modern design, stylish exterior proportions and an advanced and comfortable interior.

And the all-new vehicle clearly fulfils all the criteria.

The beautifully balanced exterior creates a distinctive sense of dynamism while hinting at the exceptional roominess and comfort to be found inside.

The exterior styling pursues a superior level of perceived quality, with the entire body giving the impression of being streamlined, sleek and powerful.

The stylish side view is enhanced by the short front and rear over-hang and emphasises the crouching stance of the vehicle's cabin and the aerodynamic arc of the roofline.

A wide chrome grille highlights the face of the all-new Maxima, and large, curved taillights accentuate the rear. Chrome door handles and a discreet silver strip on the body coloured bumpers emphasise the flowing lines of the vehicle.

Overall, the all-new Maxima delivers a pleasing exterior design with well balanced proportions and contemporary styling.

The interior design embodies the themes of relaxation, hospitality and ingenuity and its elegant appointments are reminiscent of a modern living room.

Highlighted by the bold use of wood-grain trim and polished metal finishes, the instrument panel and dash console resemble fine-quality furniture.

The unique centre console connects the front and rear space with a gentle arch, encouraging communication between the front and rear seat passengers.

The sofa-like seats with their distinctive curved shape help create an atmosphere of sophistication and comfort. Interior trims include a stylish "Carbon Black" or "Chamois Beige" Tricot fabric or high-quality Sandstone or Charcoal leather.

The all-new Maxima offers increased interior space, with an additional 15mm of vertical and horizontal space available.

An impression of quality is evoked by looking at, touching and using the interior appointments, all of which combine to create an elegant cabin befitting a luxury sedan.

Increased performance and refinement for all-new Nissan Maxima

Maxima's legendary performance continues in 2004 with the introduction of the award-winning VQ 3.5-liter engine. The VQ engine series has been recognized as one of the "Ten Best Engines" by Ward's Auto World magazine for nine consecutive years. The DOHC 24-valve V6 produces 170 kilowatts and 333Nm of torque.

The Maxima's engine utilizes continuous valve timing control, variable induction system, a silent timing chain and electronically controlled throttle. The engine also features a modular engine design, microfinished crank journals and com lobes, molybdenum coated lightweight pistons, a resin intake collector, digital knock control, six individual coils (one per spark plug) and a cross-flow coolant pattern.

All new Maxima models come equipped with a standard 4-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, with a gated shifter for better transmission control.

*Pricing is recommended retail and does not include dealer delivery or on-road costs.
