The new Subaru Outback 3.0R is "an excellent all rounder with plenty of pull", according to the February edition of Caravan and Motorhome magazine, out now.

Editor Isaac Bober writes: "Subaru used the BMW X5 as a benchmark for the Outback 3.0R, but to do so sells it short - in terms of driveability, comfort and real-world towability, the Outback 3.0R is in a class of its own."

He describes the 3.0R as "a useful little beast, for both enthusiastic drivers and sedate vanners alike."

It adds: "In short the Outback 3.0R has more power on tap when it's needed. And as a result of using AVCS, fuel consumption, exhaust emissions and idling stability have been improved."

Bober describes the gearbox as "fantastic" and of the brakes, he writes: "They continued to stop the car all day long on our tortuous Mt Buffalo, VIC test - not even hard braking with a van on the back could get them to fade."

Ride quality and seating position are "superb" and all-round vision from "...the pilot's seat great."

Caravan and Motorhome concludes: "If you want an excellent all rounder with plenty of pull, then look no further than the new Subaru Outback 3.0R. With its increased towing rate, and there's talk the boffins want to make it even higher, more power and better handling, the Outback is an excellent small caravan tow car."
