Distinctive new styling, feature upgrades, a fuel-saving new
engine, increased value.
Due for immediate release, Holden's 2004 Barina model range is set apart by a
distinctive new front end, stylish design detailing, feature upgrades and
increased value.
Barina SXi and CD models now offer the fuel-saving performance benefits of an
innovative new TWINPORT 1.4 litre engine, matched to 5-speed manual
transmission. Sophisticated 'brake assist' safety technology and headlamps off
delay are included as standard across the range.
A completely new design, the TWINPORT 1.4 litre engine develops 66kW of power
at 6,000rpm and 125Nm of torque at 4000rpm. It produces the excellent fuel
economy figure of 5.9 litres/100km (ADR 81/01 as of 1 Jan 2004) through a
variable intake control system and high exhaust recirculation rates.
Barina SXi and CD models with automatic transmission continue to be powered
by the current 1.4 litre, 66kW powerplant and the sports-oriented Barina SRi
retains the high-performance advantage of an advanced 1.8 litre, 92kW engine.
Barina's advanced safety systems are augmented by a new 'brake assist'
feature.
This tie-rod brake booster improves control in standard braking situations
and reduces pedal effort in emergency braking by automatically generating
maximum braking pressure.
The agile 'driver's car' handling and dynamic stability characteristics that
Barina is renowned for are accentuated by the re-tuning of its chassis and
electric power steering system to provide even more responsive road manners and
optimised steering precision.
Andrew Rau, Holden's Marketing Manager, Small and Medium Cars, said 2004
Barina buyers receive a double benefit.
"Not only do they get to drive the most up-to-date version of this
award-winning small car package, with its Euro good looks and great all-round
driveability - they do it for a reduced RRP. Barina now represents
better-than-ever value," he said.
The 2004 Holden Barina features a new, trapezoidal design chrome grille. The
stand-out Barina SRi three-door is equipped with new projector-style headlamps,
incorporating three cylindrical lamps for low beam, high beam and indicators. In
addition SRi and the five-door CD have dark-tinted tail lamps.
New colour-keyed front and rear bumpers have integrated inserts to protect
them against minor collisions. All models now sport body-coloured tailgate
handles and body coloured door handles (new to SXi and CD); body-coloured
protection mouldings are new to CD and body-coloured exterior mirrors are new to
the three-door SXi, as is height-adjustable steering.
A new silver-green metallic exterior finish, Spearmint Silver, is now
available on Barina SXi and CD, replacing Aztec Gold.
Inside, the 2004 Barina CD reflects the most significant changes, highlighted
by smart new charcoal grey 'Onishi' fabric trim, a centre console in charcoal
metallic and black dials with silver surrounds.
Barina's rear bench seat and cushions are now split 60/40 and offer more
cargo-carrying flexibility with a two-stage lockable seat back.
The 2004-specification features complement an extensive Barina standard
equipment listing. Safety-related items include driver and passenger airbags,
four-wheel disc brakes - to which the SRi adds anti-lock brakes - pedal release
system, front seat belts with belt force limiters, pyrotechnic pre-tensioners
and sash height adjusters.
Comfort and convenience features include air conditioning, CD player,
steering-wheel mounted sound system controls, remote power door locks and
electric speed-sensitive power steering.
