Melbourne, Australia – Northstar Chrysler Jeep Redcliffe, one
of 69 authorised Chrysler Jeep dealers in Australia, has teamed up with swimming
sensation Leisel Jones, presenting her with a Chrysler PT Cruiser, valued at
over $35,000.
The 18-year old is currently training hard for the 2004 Athens Olympics,
which begins on 13th August, where she will represent Australia in the 100m and
200m breaststroke events. “I’m really excited to have a PT Cruiser on loan. It’s
such a cool car. It will make the drive to my early morning swim sessions that
much more enjoyable,” said the current world record holder for the 100m
breaststroke and current short course world record holder for the 200m
breaststroke events.
Leisel has become the face of a young Australian achiever. When she made her
Olympic debut at Sydney in 2000, Leisel was not only the youngest member of the
Sydney 2000 Olympic Swimming Team, but also the youngest ever Olympic medallist
in the history of Australia’s participation when she won silver in both the 100m
breaststroke and 4 x 100m medley relay.
Bob Aldons, Northstar Chrysler Jeep Redcliffe Dealer Principal said Northstar
was proud to be supporting one of Australia’s most promising young talents.
“Leisel has already proven she's a world class performer, which is a nice fit
with the PT Cruiser, with more than 500,000 sales worldwide since its 2000
launch. Her commitment is an inspiration and she deserves all of her successes.
We'll be barracking hard when she dives off the blocks in her first heat”.
“Preparation is going well. I just wish clocking up kilometres in the pool
was as easy as it is in my PT,” said Leisel, who swims up to 60 kilometres per
week.
Leisel has selected the Light Pewter colour, Touring edition from the PT
Cruiser line-up. “It is sort of a gold colour, hopefully a sign of things to
come. I love driving the car, it’s bold, courageous and innovative, all
qualities I need to reach my Olympic dream.” The PT Cruiser has a 2.0L 16V
4-cylinder engine and comes with either a five-speed manual or four-speed
automatic.
“The Chrysler PT Cruiser is a great drive that embodies style and design, and
tremendous flexibility and versatility, such as 32 different seating
configurations,” said Brad Fitzsimmons, National Sales Manager of Chrysler Jeep
Australia.
Chrysler PT Cruiser sales for 2004 YTD (302 units) are up 31% on the
respective April 2003 figure. Since debuting in 2000 more than 3,700 Cruisers
have been sold in Australia.
For a short time Northstar Chrysler Jeep and Leisel are teaming up to provide
a limited edition PT Cruiser. The PT Lethal Edition Cruiser will include tinted
windows, headlight and bonnet protectors, exclusive graphics and a Leisel Jones
delivery package including autographed Northstar polo cap, owners manual and
subject to Leisel’s swimming commitments, personal hand over by Leisel and a
framed family photo with Leisel.
