Toyota Australia wants to hear from owners and former owners of the nearly
850,000 Corollas sold here since 1967.
The company has established an email address to collect tales of extended
ownership, memorable drives, chance meetings, friendships formed, epic road
trips and moments savoured.
The address is: corollalove@toyota.com.au .
Toyota Australia executive director sales and marketing Dave Buttner said the
ever-popular Corolla is a fad that refuses to fade.
“Some new cars are like crazes - they come and go, and occasionally they are
resurrected,” he said.
“But Corolla continues to sell strongly in Australia after 37 years and eight
full model changes.”
Toyota Corolla was born in 1966 and launched in Australia in 1967.
The cult car was built in Australia from 1968 to 1999, with more than 600,000
produced.
Corolla was the only small car made in Australia to ever achieve such high
volumes.
Corolla pioneered Twin Cam Multi-valve technology in true volume production
in 1986, and became the first Australian small car to be fitted with ABS brakes
in 1991.
Another major breakthrough was achieved in 2001 with the move to a 100kW
engine with intelligent variable valve timing (VVT-i) on all 18 models.
Worldwide production of Corolla recently passed the 28 million mark.
It is now produced in 14 countries around the world - Brazil, Canada,
Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand,
Vietnam, Pakistan, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.
