A Brisbane fisherman has won a new Toyota HiLux turbo-diesel four-wheel drive
worth over $35,000 in the major prize draw during this year's Toyota Fraser
Island Fishing Expo.
Peter Archer, a 36-year-old printer from Rural Press, scooped the major prize
in only his second year at the event.
“I’m absolutely stoked. I’ve been playing Lotto since I was 12 and have never
won anything substantial until this,” he said.
Peter and his wife, Kylie, were in the market for a new small car before the
competition.
Now they plan to sell Peter’s existing ute and buy another car for Kylie.
“It was great just being part of the competition, but to win this is
fantastic,” he said.
Peter Archer wasn’t the only competitor sporting a smile after the major
draw.
Bradley Gray from Tewantin, near Noosa in Queensland, won a Seejay Haven boat
and trailer worth approximately $21,780, while Kevin Cracknell from Blackwater,
west of Rockhampton, won a Toyota Echo 3-door manual hatch worth $14,740.
Kevin Cracknell said he planned to give to his new Echo to his mother, Dot.
“I’d have been happy winning a yabbie pump,” he said. “I’ve never even won an
argument before, let alone something like this,” the 30-year-old miner said.
His new Echo was provided by Toyota Financial Services.
This year’s Toyota Fraser Island Fishing Expo, held on Orchid Beach,
attracted a bumper crowd of competitors and spectators.
Fifteen hundred competitors registered for the event and another 500
spectators travelled to Fraser for the expo.
Apart from the random prize draw, plenty of anglers won $2000 cash prizes for
winning their competition categories.
The most notable catch of the week went to Bruno Zigliotto from Everton Hills
in Brisbane.
He hauled in a 29.3kg Wahoo, earning the Most Meritorious Effort trophy.
