Following on from the initial success of the CLK-Class Coupé range,
Mercedes-Benz is now introducing a 1.8-litre powered CLK 200 to the Australian
market.
The addition of the CLK200 KOMPRESSOR Coupé complements the existing CLK
range, which includes the CLK240, CLK320, CLK500 and the CLK55.
The new model will become available late third quarter this year with
Mercedes expecting sales of 100 units for the remainder of 2004, accounting for
approximately 8% of all CLK-Class Coupé sales.
The CLK200 KOMPRESSOR Coupé, builds on the success of the C-Class 4-cylinder
engine, delivering 120kW. The addition diversifies the appeal of the CLK range,
combining the distinctive styling of a purist coupé, in profile; both frameless
and pillarless, with the functionality of four seats.
“The inclusion of the CLK 200 KOMPRESSOR Coupé will undoubtedly set the
benchmark for entry level four-seater coupés.” said Horst von Sanden, Managing
Director, Mercedes Car Group, Australia.
Since the launch of the CLK-Class Coupé in Australia, Mercedes has delivered
2,340 vehicles to customers. The 3.2-litre V6-powered CLK 320 has accounted for
59 per cent of coupé sales, the 5.0-litre V8-powered CLK 500 21%, followed by
the 2.4-litre V6-powered CLK 240 (18 percent) and 5.5-litre AMG-powered CLK 55
AMG (2 per cent).
Entire CLK-Class sales of the current 209 model range total 3,269; coupés
representing 72 per cent of sales and cabriolets 28%.
Pricing
The new CLK 200 Coupé will now be available to customers from just $83,600
for both ELEGANCE and AVANTGARDE models.
The CLK200 Coupé has standard features including 16 inch alloy wheels, full
