Volvo Car Corporation has been judged as overall "Best Manufacturer" in the
first British Insurance Car Security Awards (BICSA) presented by Home Office
minister, Hazel Blears MP.
In addition, the Volvo C70 earned a second placing in the
Convertible/Roadster class, while the new S40 sedan and V50 sportswagon,
together with their predecessors the S40 and V40 Classic, scored highly with a
second placing in the Family Car class.
Collecting the award, Hugh Reid, managing director, Volvo Car UK said:
"Winning the prestigious, new 'Best Manufacturer' award is a great recognition
of the work Volvo has dedicated to optimising the security, and added personal
safety and value, of the entire Volvo range."
Volvo's security features include an alarm with immobiliser and deadlocks as
standard on all models, with the added personal safety feature of Home Safe and
Approach lighting, and the option of laminated side windows now available for
most of the range.
The BISCA aim is to raise consumer awareness of vehicle security and
recognise manufacturers' efforts to make cars more secure. To be eligible for
the awards, all cars have to pass strict selection criteria in line with the New
Vehicle Security Ratings scheme (NVSR) developed by the Motor Insurance Repair
Research Centre.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Home Office Minister, Hazel Blears MP said:
"The British Insurance Car Security Awards give motorists confidence that all
cars that met the selection criteria for the awards offer good levels of
security, and I would particularly like to congratulate today's award winners.
Motorists will be able to take this security information into account to help
inform their decision when buying a new car."
