Toyota sales in Queensland were up 17.8 per cent to 23,730 vehicles in the first
half of this year over the same period last year, according to figures released
by industry statistician VFACTS.
Toyota sold 5545 vehicles in Queensland during June, 1,598 more than nearest
rival Holden. Third-placed Ford sold 2,638 vehicles.
The result has extended Toyota’s Queensland lead over Holden to 6,366
vehicles, while its margin over Ford has grown to 11,262 vehicles.
Toyota’s tough workhorse HiLux range led the way for the brand in June, with
HiLux 2WD sales up 46.2 per cent (compared to June sales last year) to 513
vehicles, while HiLux 4WD sales rose 21.2 per cent to 514 vehicles.
So far this year, Toyota has sold 4,464 HiLux in Queensland, an increase of
18.4 per cent on the same period last year.
Toyota’s passenger car range also had a good June in the state, with Camry
four-cylinder sales up 58.1 per cent to 705 sales, Echo sales up 39.5 per cent
to 427 and Corolla sales up 22.3 per cent to 920.
Year-to-date, Camry four-cylinder sales in Queensland are up 17.1 per cent to

16.4 per cent to 4,081 units.
Toyota’s Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) range showed healthy growth in June,
with Prado sales up 17.8 per cent to 436 and RAV4 sales up 22.7 per cent to 335.
Overall Toyota SUV sales totalled 1,362 units in June, an increase of 24.2
per cent over June 2003. Year-to-date, the company’s SUV sales are up 31.7 per
cent to 6,551 units.
Toyota’s senior manager, Northern Region, David Stone said the company had
achieved an important milestone in June.
“This June we sold more than a quarter of all the vehicles sold in
Queensland. Our market share was 25.2 per cent, compared with 23.5 per cent so
far this year,” he said.
“The results reflect the long-term and growing acceptance of the Toyota brand
by the people of Queensland,” he said.
Mr Stone said he was particularly pleased with the performance of the
company’s new crossover SUV, the Kluger.
“We sold 700 Klugers in the first six months of the year and the good news is
that the vehicle has carved out a niche of its own, without affecting the rest
of our SUV range. In the first half of the year, Prado sales grew by 28.3 per
cent and RAV4 sales grew 21.3 per cent,” he said.
Nationally, Toyota continues to enjoy record sales, becoming the first
company to sell more than 100,000 vehicles in Australia in the first six months
of the year.
