2004 half-year sales for Volvo Car Corporation are up. Approximately, 230,000
Volvos were sold compared with 211,000 for the same period last year. Global
sales for the Swedish brand have increased 11 percent as compared with 2003.
2004 shows every sign of holding pace for Volvo Cars. A significant factor to
climbing sales growth is the new S40 sedan and V50 wagon, and the XC90 continues
to find favour. XC90 sales volumes are up by almost 50 percent compared with the
same period last year.
The overall positive sales trend is lead by the European markets and
specifically with diesel-engine model variants. Diesel variants accounted for 50
percent of Volvo's total sales volume.
Volvo France, for instance, increased sales by an impressive 40 percent.
Volvo sales in Germany improved by 32 percent, and Volvo sales in the UK are up
by10 percent.
In Sweden, Volvo increased sales by 5 percent on a total market that
decreased 1.4 percent. Five Volvos models placed among the 15 best selling cars
in Sweden.
The USA recorded its best ever six months with year-to-date sales of 69,158
units. This represents a 2.1 percent increase above 2003 – a record sales year.
The XC90 continues to be the best selling European SUV (sales up 20 percent).
