Holden Repositions an Australian Favourite
One of Australia’s most popular cars, the TS Astra, will be renamed and
re-specified to be sold alongside the new generation AH Astra hatch later this
year.
The two most popular TS models - the Holden Astra City and Holden Astra CD -
are on sale from July, re-named as the Astra Classic and Astra CD Classic
respectively.
The Astra Classics will continue to be sold once the AH Astra is introduced,
offering a range of prices and options for buyers seeking Astra’s proven Euro
styling, features and benefits.
Astra Classic will be available in sedan or hatchback configuration, while
Astra CD Classic will be available as a sedan only. The Astra Convertible will
remain whilst the TS Astra models CDX, SXi, SRi and SRi Turbo models will be
phased out over the coming months.
To mark the introduction of these new models, introductory pricing for Astra
Classic will start at $18,990 and Astra CD Classic at $21,990.
Holden’s Marketing Manager Passenger Cars, Alan Blazevic, said the Astra
Classics would enable Holden to continue to cover various price points and suit
the broadest possible range of Astra buyers.
"Astra is a consistently popular performer and remains Holden’s second
biggest-selling passenger car. Holden has sold more than 120,000 Astras since
the TS was introduced in 1998," Mr Blazevic said.
"The reaction to the new AH Astra in Europe has been fantastic and we believe
there will be a place for both body styles in the Australian market when it is
released here.
"We will introduce the AH model in hatch body style, as we did with the
current Astra. The range will be extended over time as they become available
from Europe."
Both Astra Classic models are equipped with air conditioning as standard and
Astra CD Classic now features ABS and traction control.
Both Classic models are powered by a 92kW 1.8 DOHC four-cylinder ECOTEC
engine, teamed with five speed manual or four speed automatic transmission.
Other features include driver and passenger airbags, pyrotechnic seat belt
pre-tensioners and six speaker Blaupunkt CD stereo.
Astra CD Classic receives ABS and traction control, Piazza black interior
trim and 15-inch alloy wheels.
