Toyota has set three significant sales milestones around the globe for the first
half of the year, passing 100,000 sales in Australia, 500,000 in Europe and
1,000,000 in the United States for the first time.
Toyota is the first single brand to have sold more than 100,000 vehicles in
Australia in the first half.
It sold 100,727 vehicles from January to until the end of June, an increase
of 9.9 per cent over the company’s previous record set last year.
In Europe, Toyota sold 502,016 vehicles, an increase of 15 per cent over the
same period last year.
And in the US, the company had its best ever first half in 47 years of
business in the world’s biggest car market, selling 1,004,636 vehicles.
Italy was Toyota’s biggest market in Europe with 75,118 sales, just ahead of
the United Kingdom with 74,179.
The biggest growth was recorded in Spain, where sales rose by 40.7 per cent
to 29,447, and Germany, which increased 18.6 per cent to 63,183.
Toyota Europe executive vice president Thierry Dombreval said consumer
confidence in the quality of Toyota products was at an all time high, as
evidenced by the Toyota brand winning Germany’s JD Power customer satisfaction
survey for the third year running.
The top-selling models in Europe were the Echo (up 9.1 per cent to 141,117)
and the Corolla small car (up 9.5 per cent to 103,976).
Echo and Corolla also recorded their best-ever first half sales in Australia,
as did the Prado, RAV4 and HiLux four-wheel drive models.
Toyota Camry is the top-selling car in America with year to date sales of
213,625.
Last month, locally produced Camry four-cylinder and six-cylinder models each
enjoyed their best sales in Australia for five years.
