Toyota Kluger’s V6 performance, all-wheel drive and three rows of seats has
proved the ideal combination for one of the leaders of the Thredbo Ski Patrol.
Patrol vice president Phil McRitchie says his new seven-seat Kluger CVX - his
first Toyota purchase - meets all his needs in taking equipment and his
expanding family from Sydney to Thredbo.
Phil McRitchie makes up to a dozen trips a season to Thredbo, some to convey
equipment and many with his three children on board.
“On a Friday night, heading into the Kosciusko National Park at 10 or 11 at
night, it’s good to know that you have a vehicle that can handle the
conditions,” he said.
“Kluger’s interior space and the fact it has three rows of seats as standard
(CVX & GRANDE) were important in the purchase decision - and so was the
all-wheel drive capability.
“Toyota’s support for the ski patrol prompted me to take a good look at the
Kluger, and the more I looked the easier the decision became,” said the ski
patrol leader and computer sales executive.
“I wanted a crossover type vehicle rather than a full four-wheel drive - so I
had passenger-car comfort levels with all-wheel-drive for dirt roads and
travelling into the snow country.
“We have three children with a fourth on the way, so we will soon need all
three rows of seats.”
Phil McRitchie said his first trip of each season was the main trip for
transporting equipment.
“At the beginning of the year, I take a couple of sets of skis and boots
down, plus patrol uniforms and first-aid equipment,” he said.
“The Kluger is very comfortable to drive and it has plenty of power with the
3.3-litre V6 engine.”
Toyota Kluger is a cross-over SUV, offering passenger-car like comfort and
performance with the added benefit of AWD.
It delivers strong performance and confidence-inspiring handling while
offering passenger car interior noise levels and ride comfort.
Three models are offered, all with a 3.3-litre VVTi-equipped Quad Cam V6
engine, five-speed electronically controlled transmission, constant all-wheel
drive and four-wheel independent suspension.
Its Quad Cam V6 delivers 172kW at 5600rpm and 328Nm of torque at 3600rpm.
Safety equipment includes driver and front passenger SRS airbags and ABS
(with Electronic Brake force Distribution and Brake Assist on all models).
All seating positions have a three-point seat belt and adjustable head
restraint.
Kluger’s second-row seat has 60/40 split, 120mm of fore/aft slide adjustment
and one-touch tilt and slide access to the rear cabin area. Kluger CVX’s second
and third-row seats can be folded almost flat to increase cargo space if not
required.
