The Australian launch of the MG ZT in 2002 reawakened MG’s long tradition of
building sports saloons. The MG ZT was the fastest and most dynamic of a range
of sporting saloons from MG that first appeared in 1926 with the launch of the
4-seat MG 14/28 Super Sports.
Since its launch, the MG ZT has won many fans, with most owners opting for
the superior levels of driving dynamics to those delivered by competitive cars.
In keeping with its reputation as a genuine European touring car, the changes
unveiled in this, MG’s 80th anniversary year, are evolutionary in their scope.
The external changes are the most noticeable; from the restyled,
sharper-edged more contemporary front, incorporating a more prominent MG family
radiator grille, through updated alloy wheel designs, to the revised lower lip
rear spoiler, all changes combine to increase the MG ZT’s road presence.
Safety and security have also been upgraded, with the fitment as standard of
the new style headlamps with halogen projector units, remote control boot
opening and superlocking on all doors.
Engineering changes have focussed on the area of handling and driving
dynamics. With class-leading dynamics, we have taken great pains not to reduce
the handling superiority, rather, to revise the suspension settings to afford
more travel in the suspension, taking the edge off the ride firmness.
Interior changes have likewise been kept to a minimum. Improvements have been
made to the seat bolsters so as to increase comfort levels, new instrumentation
and backlighting for greater visibility and ease of use, a revised dashboard and
console texture finish, and improved rear legroom with reprofiled seat cushions
and squabs.
With the MG ZT range now including the welcome addition of a thoroughbred V8
powerplant (see separate press release), this class-leading motor vehicle range
has yet again set standards in handling, performance and overall driving
dynamics that others can only follow.
