Toyota’s heartland four-wheel drive vehicles have helped it stretch its lead in
a growing Queensland motor vehicle market.
Toyota achieved a 19 per cent increase in combined 4WD sales in August 2004,
compared with the same month in 2003.
Strong sales of Toyota’s sports utility vehicles, HiLux 4x4 and workhorse
LandCruiser 79 Series saw Toyota increase its lead in the Queensland market by a
further 708 vehicles.
Toyota’s overall sales of 1,532 4WD models were more than double those of 4WD
rival Nissan.
Toyota’s Camry four was a strong performer in the medium four passenger
segment, with 626 cars sold for a 56.5 per cent market share.
Registration figures compiled by independent industry statistician VFACTS
show Toyota sold an August record of 3,878 vehicles in Queensland, compared with
3,170 by nearest rival Holden.
Overall, the Queensland market in August was 17,269 vehicles, compared with
15,245 in August 2003. This represents a 13.2 per cent increase in volume over
the August 2003 result.
Toyota achieved a 14.2 per cent increase in car sales, selling 3,878 vehicles
in Queensland in August 2004, compared with 3,394 in August 2003.
Two thirds of the way through the calendar year, Toyota has sold 31,428
vehicles (year to date August) in Queensland – compared with Holden’s 23,522 and
Ford’s 17,163.
Toyota holds 23.2 per cent of the overall Queensland market (YTD August).
Toyota’s overall sales for the month of August included 1,071 SUVs (30.3 per
cent of the Queensland SUV market) and 945 light trucks.
Toyota’s senior manager, Northern Region, David Stone, said Toyota’s
increased sales in a growing Queensland market were particularly pleasing.
“Four-cylinder Camry had a very strong month for us and HiLux 4x4 staged a
huge comeback after last month to easily win the 4x4 Pick-up segment.
“Special mention too for King Off The Road LandCruiser 100 Series, which
outsold its nearest rival by more than two to one.”
Toyota vehicles won eight Queensland market segments in August.
Corolla had a strong month, with 547 vehicles sold for 19.4 per cent market
share, while Camry four was a clear Medium Four segment winner.
RAV4 with 240 sales led the SUV Compact sales in August, and new-generation
Prado continued to succeed, with 328 sales in August.
That was backed by sales of 107 all-wheel-drive Klugers in the SUV Medium
segment.
LandCruiser 100 Series recorded 342 deliveries or 66.9 per cent of the SUV
Large market.
Toyota HiLux 4x4 and LandCruiser 79 Series performed well in the 4x4
Pick-up/Cab Chassis segment, with sales of 300 HiLux and 215 LandCruiser 79
Series, achieving a combined 39.5 per cent of the 4x4 Pickup/Cab Chassis market
in August.
