Toyota has upgraded its class-leading LandCruiser Prado Quad Cam V6 with new
transmissions.
The new five-speed electronically controlled automatic and six-speed manual
transmissions increase fuel economy, driveability, and driving comfort.
Fuel economy has been improved to 13.2 litres/100km for LandCruiser Prado V6
automatic and to 13.5 litres/100km for Prado V6 manual.
In addition to fuel saving benefits, the new automatic transmission offers
smoother shifting and the ability to “read” hills.
The new manual transmission reduces shift effort, with the adoption of
triple-cone synchromesh on first, second and third gears.
Both transmissions reduce vehicle weight.
Toyota has also upgraded Prado's 179kW V6's cruise control and the brake
booster system for high-grade (VSC-equipped) models.
All new Prado models (V6 and Turbo-diesel) have upgraded audio systems -
including MP3 compatibility.
Prado Grande now has Toyota’s latest generation satellite navigation, with
faster route search, changeable touch-screen background colours and provision to
set destinations via latitude and longitude coordinates.
Prado’s 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine has been discontinued.
The new LandCruiser Prado A750F ECT automatic transmission has a gated shift
and improved shift feel thanks to Toyota’s latest generation precision hydraulic
control system.
It can be driven in conventional automatic mode, with the shift lever in “D”,
or in manual style using the gate-type shift. The gate shift provides for
lateral D-4 and L-2 changes.
Lexus flow-down artificial intelligence (AI Shift) technology manages the
shift regime according to road conditions and driver behaviour.
It uses data on throttle opening angle, vehicle speed, engine speed, and
brake signals to “read” road conditions.
The Toyota AI Shift can adjust the shift pattern to suit different drivers
and provide engine braking for hill descents and works in conjunction with Prado
V6’s intelligent, linkless electronic throttle.
Prado’s new audio equipment includes MP3 compatibility and green illumination
across the range.
New Prado GX models have a single-disc CD/tuner, while new GXL and VX models
have a new 2-in-1 CD/tuner with in-dash 6-disc changer.
Improvements to Prado V6’s cruise control allow the system to retain the
pre-set speed when vehicle speed drops below 40km/h.
VX and Grande V6 models have a new hydraulic brake booster with integrated
skid control ECU to reduce weight and improve braking power/control.
The booster unit consists of the brake master cylinder, brake actuator,
reserve tank, pump and pump motor, accumulator and skid control ECU.
It provides additional fluid pressure and control for ABS anti-skid brakes
and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) functions.
