Real 12 cylinder Ferraris today start your pulse racing at around $550,000,
while even the new V8 F430 will get your eyes watering at its anticipated
$400,000 price tag.
But at this year's Australian International Motor Show in Sydney, visitors
will find one of Ferrari's finest racetrack-developed 12 cylinder models on the
Shannons Stand in as-new condition for around a third of current new Ferrari 12
cylinder price.
Regarded by many as the definitive Ferrari supercar of the pre F40 era, the
immaculate white 1983 Ferrari 512i BB will be displayed right next to the
Australian Joss and Swedish Koenigsegg supercars in Hall 6.
It is the first time since it conducted its first Sydney Motor Show auction
in 1999 that Shannons has taken its place alongside the world's finest and
latest vehicles inside the Sydney Exhibition & Convention Centre.
With its mid-mounted 4.9 litre 180 degree boxer engine, just 4,000 miles on
its odometer and with the famous Prancing Horse on its bonnet, the Ferrari will
be a realistic and much more attractive alternative to many new sporting cars.
The five-speed manual car the only white injected 512i BB delivered in
Australia and is one of the 24 special vehicles being auctioned by Shannons on
the final day of the Motor Show, Sunday October 17. But if you don't fancy
white, just add around $15,000 to its anticipated selling price of $150 000-$180
000 for a scarlet back to metal repaint and you've still got a real red-blooded
as new 280km/h flat 12 Ferrari for less than the price of a new Porsche.
Sharing the spotlight with the 512i BB on the Shannons stand is a super 1958
Chevrolet Corvette Roadster finished in Turquoise and white, a rare 1969 Dodge
Charger R/T S/E 440 Magnum in chocolate brown and a mint 1933 MG J2 Midget
Roadster finished in French Racing Blue.
The Corvette is in great condition and is a rapidly-appreciating classic
which Shannons expect to sell for between $65,000-$75,000.
The manual gearbox Dodge Charger R/T is a very rare American 'Muscle car' in
immaculate, restored condition and was selected from over 400 entries at the
recent Chryslers on the Murray to feature in a four page spread in 6 Pack
Magazine. Shannons expect it to sell for $52 000 - $62000
The MG J2 Midget comes from the same garage to the red J2 which sold for
$51,000 at Shannons July 19 auction in Sydney and has been restored over a six
year period to original concours condition. The car won the under 1000cc class
and the outright award at the 2004 MGCC Nationals and the All British Display
day. Shannons expect it to change hands for $42 000 - $52 000.
The Australian International Motor Show Auction presented by Shannons will be
held from 2.30pm on Sunday October 17 in the Ballroom at the Sydney Convention
& Exhibition Centre. All auction vehicles will be on display on the Shannons
stand from the opening of the Show on Thursday, October 7.
