New Home for Jaguar in Heart of Melbourne

21 October, 2004

A new home for Jaguar will open in the heart of Melbourne on Friday (October 22) evening with the star attraction a Jaguar of the future – the R-D6 concept car visiting from the United Kingdom.

The R-D6 is a one-off vehicle developed to showcase Jaguar's vision for cars in the next decade. It's a sexy four-door coupe with attitude, elegance and performance and an innovative new diesel engine.

Managing Director of Melbourne City Jaguar, Gary Brill, said he is excited to be one of only a few places in the world to have the opportunity to display this fantastic car.

"It is appropriate to have such a car to open our extensive new facility in Port Melbourne," Mr Brill said.

Also on show at the dealership is the new 2005 S-TYPE luxury saloon with its classic contemporary styling, outstanding performance and class leading value.

Melbourne City Jaguar's new facility is located on four acres in Ingles Street, Port Melbourne with Jaguar's Premier Automotive Group siblings Land Rover and Volvo.

"This creates a centre of prestige motoring only a kilometre from the city centre. The new Jaguar showroom is a one-stop facility for all Jaguar customers' requirements from purchasing the stylish new S-TYPE to having their classic Jaguar serviced," Mr Brill said.

Jaguar has exciting plans for the future and Melbourne City Jaguar will become one of the brand's leading lights in its new position.

Also on display will be the technology of the future including an all-aluminium bodyshell of the XJ – the most advanced production Jaguar ever produced. The XJ is all alluminium and bonded and riveted like the modern aircraft of today - giving it strength, rigidity and stunning power to weight performance.

Guests at the opening function on Friday evening will include Jaguar Australia General Manager David Blackhall and some of Melbourne's leading identities and key Jaguar customers.
