Tokyo, October 25, 2004 - The European Colt has been named the
car of the year in two separate competitions, held in Denmark and Holland.
Selected by the Danish Automotive Journalists Club in Denmark and by the
Kampioen, the magazine for the Dutch automotive association (ANWB), the Colt was
praised for its class-leading interior room and its value for money. The Colt
was launched in Europe in May 2004.
In Denmark, the Colt was named ‘Car of the Year in Denmark 2005’. Key points
in its selection were the extensive safety package and its overall value for
money. The Colt competed in a field of twenty vehicles, with the final five
being narrowed down to the Skoda Octavia, Renault Modus, Peugeot 407 and the Kia
Picanto, as well as Colt. After extensive testing on both road and track by 25
members of the Danish Automotive Journalists Club, the Colt was declared the
best overall vehicle.
The award in the Netherlands was delivered to the Colt as the ‘Compact Car of
the Year 2004’. The competition was held by Kampioen, the magazine of ANWB which
has a readership of over 6 million. Kampioen’s testers noted the car’s ample
interior size and the utility offered by its rear seats. They also praised the
engine and handling, while its room and practicality outclassed the competition.
The Colt competed against the Opel Corsa, the Citroen C2, the Lancia Ypsilon and
the smart forfour.
In Australia, Colt has generated much interest amongst potential owners since
it went on sale last month, with over 4,000 people registering for test drives
on the unique web micro-site www.colt.com.au. Dealers have also reported a
positive response in showrooms in the first month of sales with overwhelmingly
the spacious interior, flexible internal packaging, great handling and fuel
economy being the deciding factors for people buying Colt.
