Toyota has experienced its best November sales on record, retailing 17,578 vehicles – 1,152 more than its previous best result for the month.

The result brings Toyota’s year-to-date sales to 184,763, keeping the company on track to become the first brand to register 200,000 vehicle sales in a single year in the Australian market.

It also stretches Toyota’s lead over its nearest rival Holden to 20,701 sales year-to-date. Toyota leads Ford by 62,027 vehicles.

Strong sales across the product range helped to deliver the record result, with both passenger car sales and light trucks establishing new November records. Overall sales were up 9.3 per cent.

The Echo blitzed the opposition in the small car market with 1,829 sales, more than 550 in front of its nearest competition. With a lead of 1,566 sales year-to-date, Echo is set to retain its light car crown.

The result was Echo’s second best result ever, bettered only by June this year, when 1,877 units were sold. Echo sales were up 18.8 per cent on November last year.

Corolla and Camry four-cylinder also dominated their respective markets in November, with Corolla selling 3,219 units (up 14.6 per cent) and Camry four cylinder selling 2,123 vehicles (up 4.3 per cent).

Camry six-cylinder recorded a strong result, with 1,416 units sold, an increase of 29.1 per cent on last November.

Meanwhile, Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive Prius sold 119 units, up 30.8 per cent on last year. The result is significant because November 2003 was the first full month on sale for the new model Prius.

Total passenger sales in November were up 13.0 per cent to 9,549 units.

Toyota also strengthened its position as “King off the Road”, with overall 4WD sales up 6.8 per cent on November 2003.

The Prado recorded a 10.5 per cent increase in sales to 1,475, while the Kluger notched up a further 661 sales, giving Toyota 2,136 sales in the medium off-road segment.

LandCruiser Wagon and RAV4 also had strong months, with LandCruiser Wagon sales up 16.1 per cent to 1,233 and RAV4 up 9.6 per cent to 1117.

Toyota Executive Director of Sales and Marketing, Dave Buttner, said the November result was an indication of the strength of the company’s product offerings across the board.

“Year-to-date, Toyota vehicles are the leaders in eight separate market segments. Segment leaders include Echo, Corolla, Camry four-cylinder, RAV4, Prado, LandCruiser Wagon, HiAce Van and HiLux 4X4,” he said.

He said the company’s line-up would be significantly strengthened in 2005.

“This has been a quiet year for us in terms of new product, but next year we will bring several exciting, all-new models to market.

“Those new vehicles should see us well-placed to build on this year’s sales success,” he said.
