Tokyo: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced its new leadership team and
executive structure, beginning with the start of fiscal year 2005. The new
structure includes the position of chief operating officer (COO) as well as
changes to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
Headed by Nissan President and Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn, the new
leadership team will be responsible for the implementation of the NISSAN
Value-Up business plan, details of which will be given at the presentation of
fiscal year 2004 results in April.
Toshiyuki Shiga is named to the position of COO, reporting to Carlos Ghosn.
The COO will support the president and CEO in all areas of the business and will
have specific responsibility for Global Sales and Marketing, Human Resources,
Treasury and Quality.
“Recognising the broadening of my responsibilities in May, when I will become
president and CEO of both Nissan and Renault, I need a leadership team capable
of accelerating the performance and delivery of results that has characterised
Nissan over the past six years,” said Mr Ghosn. “The new position of COO will be
crucial to the success of NISSAN Value-Up, and I have full confidence in
Toshiyuki Shiga and the new leadership team to help me implement the next
chapter of Nissan’s growth.”

Other Changes
Nobuo Okubo, currently executive vice president, Research, Technology and
Engineering, will retire from his operational responsibilities
Norio Matsumura, currently executive vice president, Global Sales and
Marketing and chairman of the Management Committees of Japan and Dealers, will
retire from his operational responsibilities
Patrick Pelata, currently executive vice president, Planning and Design and
chairman of the Management Committee of Europe, will leave Nissan for a new
position at Renault. Pelata will be proposed as a non-executive director of
Nissan.
Notes: Messrs. Shiga, Saikawa, Yamashita and Tavares will be proposed as new
directors in addition to the other remaining directors at the Annual
Shareholders’ Meeting in June. Messrs. Ghosn, Koeda and Shiga will be appointed
as representative directors at the Board of Directors Meeting following the
Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in June.
