  • 10 ‘World firsts’ over the last 116 years
  • World’s Second Oldest Car Builder, World’s Oldest Automotive Brand
  • Peugeot 1007 the latest ‘World first’ to be launched in Europe July 2005

Introducing ‘World firsts’ is not new to Peugeot. The Peugeot 1007 might be the first car to have electric front sliding doors, but it is just another first from the manufacturer who, over its 116 year history has been a true innovator as the following indicates:

1892 First company in the world to fit rubber tyres to a petrol-engined four wheel car
1912 Introduced the first car in the world to have an engine with double overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder – Peugeot L76 racing car
1929 The Peugeot 201 was the first car in the world to have independent front suspension as standard
1934 Introduced the first convertible car in the world to feature an electric folding roof – Peugeot 401 Eclipse
1959 The Peugeot 403 was the first mass-produced car in the world to have an automatic cooling fan controlled by engine temperature
1967 The Peugeot 204 estate was fitted with the smallest diesel engine in the world, at 1200cc
1972 Peugeot launched the 104, the smallest 4-door car in the world
1999 The Peugeot 607 was the world’s first diesel car fitted with a particulate filter as standard equipment
2004 The Peugeot 206 became the first small sector diesel car to be fitted with a particulate filter
2004 Peugeot unveils the 1007 the first car in the world to feature two electric front sliding doors

A look at some of the recent models, such as the 206CC and the 307CC, convertibles that feature steel folding roofs, perfectly illustrates Peugeot’s continuing ability to satisfy customer’s needs with their innovative approach.

From petrol driven cars on rubber tyres, to the ultimate city car the Peugeot 1007, innovation is clearly in the DNA of Peugeot.
