Suzuki has proved itself as a major player in the automotive industry, with
global sales in 2005 reaching a record 2, 010,000 units, a 107 % increase on the
previous year.
This means Suzuki builds and sells more cars than respected Japanese brands
such as Mazda, Subaru and Mitsubishi. The recent launch of the all new Suzuki
Swift has contributed significantly to Suzuki’s success, with sales of the
vehicle far exceeding expectations. With three new models released in Australia
in 2005, Suzuki also forged ahead in the local market and sold an impressive
13,794 units, compared to 7,206 units in 2004.
The sales result was Suzuki’s most successful sales figures in this country
since it first entered the competitive Australian market over 25 years ago and
is a record high for the Japanese manufacturer.
The sales success can well be attributed to the arrival of the new Suzuki
Swift, APV Commercial Van and the all new Grand Vitara, while retail sales of
other Suzuki models such as the Liana and Jimny also lifted.
The award winning Suzuki Swift, took the light passenger car market in
Australia by storm, outselling the Mazda 2, Honda Jazz and Ford Fiesta. The
Swift also received accolades around the world taking out Car of The Year titles
in various publications and from various organisations in New Zealand, Iceland,
UK, China, Ireland, Malaysia, Japan and Australia.
In its domestic market of Japan, Suzuki maintained its number one position in
the mini car category for the 33rd consecutive year.
