- One millionth Chrysler PT Cruiser roles off the production line
- Milestone reached in just six years
- Demand for the one-of-a-kind vehicle continues at record levels
- Soft top version of PT Cruiser to increase momentum
Chrysler’s
retro PT Cruiser recently posted a major milestone with the one millionth
vehicle rolling off the production line.
The achievement, which has only taken six years to realise, comes ahead of
the mid year arrival of the four-seater soft top PT Cruiser Cabrio.
Thanks in part to record sales last year, over 5,500 PT Cruisers have been
delivered since the vehicle’s Australian release mid 2000.
Sales of the PT Cruiser in 2005 of 1,001 were the best in four years, the
performance only bettered by the car’s first full year on sale in 2001.
Further testifying to the vehicles timeless appeal, 2006 year-to-date sales
as at February are better yet than 2005, up 2.4 per cent.
"This significant milestone reflects the global demand for the Chrysler PT
Cruiser," said Gerry Jenkins, managing director, Chrysler Group.
"The one-of-a-kind vehicle created its own new segment when it arrived in
2000 with its unique styling and interior roominess.
“The vehicle has a strong following in Australia and the arrival of the
Cabrio version will further broaden its appeal, providing customers with a
fresh, practical and affordable soft top,” said Jenkins.
Completely updated for the 2006 model year, the Chrysler PT Cruiser continues
to lead the segment in style, versatility and packaging.
DaimlerChrysler’s Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico is the sole producer of
Chrysler PT Cruiser sedan and cabrio models, supplying the vehicles to 60
countries around the world.
DaimlerChrysler recently announced a $1 billion joint investment between
DaimlerChrysler and its suppliers to modernise and re-tool its Mexican
manufacturing operations and to create two industrial parks for suppliers.
