Don your beanie, crank up the heater, or wait for the full blast of global warming. It’s tops off for winter at Shannons upcoming Sydney auction on May 15.

Ten of the 26 vehicles going under the hammer are full convertible models, while four others have ‘targa’ tops or sunroofs.

The top softie of the auction is a stunning 1958 Chevrolet Corvette roadster, finished in classic red over white that Shannons expect to sell in the $90,000-$105,000 range.

The vehicle was the subject of a complete restoration between 2002 and 2004, including a full mechanical rebuild, new paint and chrome. The hardtop was also refurbished and the interior re-trimmed in original style. Since completion the Corvette has taken out numerous awards, with its seven trophies included in the sale.

Other classic American convertibles up for sale include a spectacular red left hand drive1959 Chevrolet Impala 348 ‘Tri-Power’ Convertible ($75,000-$90,000), an equally gargantuan right hand drive1969 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible ($12,000-$18,000), while the right hand drive 1980 Chevrolet Corvette 454 coupe ($34,000-$40,000) features removable panels for its ‘T’ roof.

From Britain there’s a beautiful 1969 Jaguar E-type Series II roadster ($62,000-$70,000), an original Australian-delivered 1957 MGA 1500 Mk I roadster ($24,000-$28,000), a nicely restored 1965 Triumph TR4A ($17,000-$23,000), a 1961 Lotus Seven roadster Series 2 ($22,000-$28,000) and a 1969 MGB Mk II roadster being sold with no reserve price.

Finally, Europe’s offerings include a 1988 BMW 320i convertible being sold with no reserve (estimated sale price $8,000-$12,000), a 1981 Mercedes-Benz 380SL convertible ($20,000-$25,000) and an original New Zealand-delivered 1969 Fiat 500F ‘Bambina’ sunroof sedan being sold with no reserve (estimated sale price $5,000-$8,000).
