Melbourne –Mercedes-Benz’ decision to engineer and market innovative smaller
vehicles, such as the A-Class and B-Class, has proven a real winner with
Australian customers.
According to automotive sales data released today, Mercedes-Benz sales in the
small car segment (over $40,000) reached 707 units so far this year, outselling
BMW (605 units) and Audi (506 units).
“More than ever, Australians can own a practical and safe small car without
compromising on luxury,” said Horst von Sanden, managing director of the
Mercedes Car Group.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class’ growing appeal in the small car segment continues
to be strong with last month’s sales (103 units) equalling the sales of April
last year, which was the first month the new A-Class was available for customers
around Australia. Year-to-date the A-Class is up 83 per cent over the same time
last year.
The recent addition of the all new B-Class to the Mercedes-Benz product range
continues to grow in popularity with 315 sold year-to-date. The car is a compact
yet spacious alternative for the small car segment, slightly larger than the
A-Class and is selling above initial company forecasts.
