- Chrysler 300C dominates upper large segment (under $100,000)
- Dodge Caliber makes impressive debut
- Jeep® Commander has best month since launch
Melbourne – The Chrysler Group has posted its best August performance on
record with 861 registrations last month according to official industry figures
released today.
The outstanding result represents a 26 per cent increase over last year’s
August registrations, driving year-to-date sales to 5,897, up 20 per cent over
2005.
The achievement was lead by the Chrysler 300C; with 200 deliveries the bold
American trounced the competition accounting for more than 50 per cent of total
segment sales (upper large under $100,000) and outdoing its nearest rival by a
resounding 79 units.
The 300C has shown no signs of letting up on its runaway success since
muscling on to the scene late last year and with this month’s domination it has
become the clear leader in this prized segment.
The arrival of the Dodge brand is expected to further buoy the Group’s sales
in 2006 following its debut late last month with the edgy crossover Dodge
Caliber.
Despite being on sale for only one week in August an impressive 86 Calibers
were delivered in the month - the number is expected to grow significantly with
a full month on sale in September.
“There has never been a better August performance in the 13 years that the
Chrysler Group has been operating in Australia”, said Gerry Jenkins, managing
director, Chrysler Group Australia.
“Our products are clearly striking a cord with the market and the arrival of
the edgy, street smart Dodge perfectly compliments Jeep, for those looking for
adventure, and Chrysler with its expressive, refined design,” said Jenkins.
Chrysler brand sales of 337 in August were up an impressive 97 per cent over
last year’s August, taking year-to-date sales to 2,515, an increase of 74 per
cent over 2005.
The Chrysler PT Cruiser had a solid month with 97 deliveries (61 sedan, 36
cabrio) as Australia’s love affair with the vehicle’s throw back retro styling
continues.
For the Jeep brand the iconic Wrangler had its third successive month of
100-plus sales with 115 registrations.
And the seven-seat Jeep Commander had its best month since it was launched in
May this year with 72 deliveries, taking year-to-date brand sales to 3,382.
“Larger families have been asking about a seven seat Jeep for a long time and
now that we have one the customer uptake is impressive,” said Jenkins.
“With our unique portfolio of products and new models arriving regularly we
expect this strong growth to continue into 2007,” he said.
