The iconic Saab Convertible turns 20 this year and to celebrate Saab is
returning to the exclusive Birdcage Enclosure at Flemington.
For more than 10 years Saab has been a part of the Melbourne Cup Carnival,
and after a short-stint above the winning post in the Hill Stand, the Swedish
stayer is back in the Birdcage.
Marking the Convertible’s 20th anniversary the Saab Marquee takes its
inspiration from arguably the world’s most famous four-season, four-seater
soft-top, bringing the four seasons to life on each of the four race days of the
Carnival.
In a head-turning first, the exterior of the Saab Marquee will be completely
transformed each race day and matched to a different Saab Convertible.
Beginning with a celebration of summer on Derby Day, the Electric Blue 20th
Anniversary Saab Convertible will be framed by blue sky and white clouds – no
matter what the Melbourne weather has in store.
Saab guests will think only of summer with feature cocktails and refreshing
watermelon and feta appetisers to set the scene.
While Saab’s trademark heated seats won’t feature in the winter Marquee, the
seasonally inspired menu will warm the soul on Stakes Day, autumn leaves will
fall on Cup and flowering blossoms will be the perfect backdrop for Oaks.
There are also some surprises in store for Saab guests who will have the
opportunity to experience the exhilarating open-air feeling the brand is famous
for.
Saab’s involvement in the Melbourne Cup Carnival also includes sponsorship of
one of the best known and most watched races of the Carnival - the Saab Quality
on Derby Day - the last chance race for would-be Cup contenders.
In 2006 Saab has also extended its sponsorship of the national Myer Fashions
on the Field competition with a focus on new and developing categories.
Saab is providing both the winner of the popular Women’s Classic Race Wear
and now Men’s Classic Race Wear with a new Saab 9-3 Convertible for one year.
Saab, famous for its innovative and beautiful design, is also supporting the
inaugural Design Award this year, with the winner also driving away in a new
Saab Convertible for a year.
