MINI takes the Mo from Mojo and slots it into Movember- the
month formally known as November.
Movember is a fundraiser in aid of Prostate Cancer, Beyond
Blue (Male Depression) and Testicular Cancer, that increases awareness through
men growing (or attempting to grow!) a Mo.
MINI is supporting the focus on male health issues. The male
members of the team at MINI Australia will be growing a Mo (each) in a bid to
raise cash to fund research.
At the start of Movember, all guys can register (www.movember.com.au) with a clean shaven
face. The Movember participants, AKA “Mo Bros”, have the remainder of the month
to grow and groom their moustache.
MINI is leaving the growing of Mo’s to the guys, but “Mo Sistas” (ladies who
support their guys or love Mo's!) form an important part of Movember with their
powerful feminine touch, by recruiting Mo Bros, and helping to raise funds.
MINI is keen to encourage more Bros to grow Mos. Support may involve growing
a Mo (typically by Mo Bros only) or by spreading the word about male health
issues and by donating to this cause.
“Movember has a serious intent, to put the spotlight on the lack of awareness
of the very real health issues faced by males,” said Justin Hocevar, National
Manager, MINI.
“The good old "she'll be right" attitude and a reluctance to see a doctor
about an illness or for regular medical checks also contribute to the problem.
“Movember aims to change this attitude, make male health fun by putting the
Mo back on the face of fashion and in the process raise some serious funds for
key male health issues.
“The MINI team will be growing and grooming their Mos through Movember. We’ll
be a sight to behold come the 30th,” he said.
The key male health causes for Movember 2006 are:
Prostate Cancer in partnership with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of
Australia (www.prostate.org.au ). Each
year, 2,700 men die from prostate cancer in Australia - more than the number of
women who die from breast cancer.
Male Depression in partnership with Beyond Blue ( www.beyondblue.org.au) because one in
six men suffers from depression at any given time but most don't seek help.
Testicular Cancer because it’s the second most common cancer in young
men aged 18 to 35.
