Audi RS 4 Scoops Prize Pool

13 December, 2006

  • RS 4 is Motor’s ‘Performance Car of the Year’ &
  • Australia’s Best Cars ‘Best Luxury Sports Car’

The Audi RS 4 has scooped the prize pool in Australia this month, winning two prestigious motoring awards including Motor Magazine’s ‘ Performance Car of the Year’ (PCOTY), announced today.

The RS 4 beat 22 deserving finalists at PCOTY, taking home the ultimate prize thanks to its winning combination of top performance, dynamism, driveability, design/function and value that made up Motor Magazine’s strict judging criteria.

According to PCOTY judge, David Morley, “The RS 4 is not just a competent car. Nor is it simply an intelligent or an efficient or a confidence-inspiring vehicle...it is much more than that. It’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing, it’s a Q-ship, it’s a proper muscle car. And even more importantly than all those things, it makes you want to drive it.”

The Audi RS 4 was also crowned Best Luxury Sports Car at the recent Australia’s Best Cars award ceremony, held in Sydney last week.

Also at Australia’s Best Cars, the Audi A6 3.0 TDI and Audi Q7 SUV also achieved a Top 3 placing in their respective categories of Best Luxury Car and Best Luxury Four Wheel Drive.

The Australia's Best Cars award is the nation's most comprehensive and reliable consumer-focused vehicle testing and award program. It was established as a joint initiative in 2000 by Australia's automotive clubs, which represent almost 7 million members across the country. The 2006 Australia's Best Cars winners were announced in Sydney, December 6.

According to the Australia’s Best Cars judges, “Audi has taken its quattro all-wheel-drive system to new levels in the RS4 while turning up the wick on performance. With a high-revving and powerful direct-injection 4.2-litre V8 under the bonnet and the surety of four massively-tyred wheels delivering power and gripping like pit bulls, the RS4 is an inspiring machine.”

“The usual Audi fundamentals apply, which means a finely-crafted cabin, impressive build standards, high security levels and plenty of active and passive safety features,” the judges concluded.

The Audi RS 4 sedan is joined in Australia this month by the versatile and very sporty RS 4 Avant and in January 2007, by the all-new RS 4 Cabriolet.
