Audi’s stunning new R8 sportscar is undoubtedly the star of the Audi stand at
the Brisbane Motor Show 2007. This is only the second time the vehicle has been
shown in Australia, ahead of its national launch in September.
Joining the R8 on the Audi stand will be the recently launched S8, RS 4
Avant, RS 4 Cabriolet and the brand new Audi TT Coupe.
“Since it was first unveiled, the R8 has received enormous attention from
potential buyers and the public. To-date we have signed around 32 pre-orders for
this extraordinary sports coupe,” said Audi Australia’s Managing Director, Joerg
Hofmann.
Confirmed for limited sale in Australia, the new R8 will be launched in
September this year. Pricing and specification is yet to be confirmed, however
the car is expected to be priced around $250,000 to $300,000.
According to Audi’s Joerg Hofmann, the introduction of new vehicles like the
Audi R8 is yet another reason why the brand is growing strongly in Australia.
“Globally, we hit our 11th consecutive year of record growth, with over
960,000 units. Our success in the Australian market is another positive story.
In 2006 we grew by 20% to 5,770 units – an all-time record in this country.
In Queensland, Audi dealerships contributed to around 20% of the German
luxury brand’s record total. In Brisbane, Audi Centre Brisbane once again topped
national sales.
Audi Centre Gold Coast reached an all-time record and Honeycombes Townsville
was the No. 1 rural dealer nationally, making the Sunshine State the fastest
growing region for Audi sales.
This year, the Audi brand is targeting ‘double digit growth’ again in
Australia, supported by excellent product like the sporty new R8.
The launch of the brand’s new sporty spearhead (the production R8) marks the
revival of the Audi R8, the five-time winner of Le Mans. The Le Mans quattro
concept car was first unveiled internationally in 2004. In the same year, the
concept car also appeared at the Melbourne Motor Show.
