The world’s biggest get-together of MINIs old and new, as
well as MINI enthusiasts old and young, is just days away.
From Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th June, thousands of MINIs and
their drivers and passengers will descend on the peaceful sea-side city of
Amsterdam, Holland, converging on the once famous Formula 1 race track at
Zandvoort.
Here the faithful will pay homage to MINIs of all shapes and
sizes, equipped with all sorts of features, both factory fitted and products of
the incredibly imaginative aftermarket.
The three days of MINI partying includes a round of the German
MINI Challenge series, Europe’s most exciting one-make race series, while DJs
spin the latest sounds, and parties roll on well into the wee small hours.
There’s also the chance for fans to steer their own cars
around the circuit, have a crack at MINI Driver Training, take a high-octane
taxi ride around Zandvoort in a race car, or give the slalom course a tickle.
The more laid back MINI fans can kick back and soak up the scene, have their
hair done or take in a typically MINI fashion show. Then there are the fun sport
options down at the beach to consider.
Recognising the significance of the event, MINI has arrange
for two living brand icons to be present to meet the fans across the weekend:
Michael Cooper, son of the late John Cooper, and Rauno Aaltonen - who won the
1967 Monte Carlo Rallye in a MINI Cooper S after cleaning up at the Gallagher
500 at Bathurst the year before, accompanied by our very own Bob Holden.
In 2005, more than 6000 MINI fans from more than 40 countries
attended the first MINI UNITED weekend festival in Misano, Italy, and MINI is
confident this tally will be well and truly exceeded in 2007.
And with more than one million MINIs now in the hands of keen
owners around the world, there are almost twice as many potential recruits for
MINI UNITED in 2007.
Australian attendees are in with a good chance to walk off
with the “we’ve come the furthest” prize.
