The brand with the star also posted record sales of 575,700 units over the first six months of the year (January-June 2006: 565,300).

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan met with a tremendous response from customers in the first three months after its international market launch. A total of 22,800 C-Class sedans were sold in June, which represents a 41 percent increase from June 2006 .

The new C-Class sedan will be introduced to the U.S. and Japan over the next few months. Mercedes-Benz will also begin offering three additional engine variants for the model in August: the C 180, C 230, and C 200 cdi.

Australian customers can enjoy the all-new C-Class from the end of July, with the C 200 Kompressor, C 220 CDI turbo diesel and C 280 petrol V6 in showrooms at time of release.

Sales of Mercedes-Benz SUVs also continue to rise strongly. In the first six months of 2007, deliveries of the brand’s SUVs worldwide rose 13 percent to the record level of 86,500 units.

Mercedes-Benz continues to be the best-selling premium brand in the SUV segment in Western Europe. Sales of Mercedes-Benz diesel SUVs in the U.S. have developed particularly well. Australian sales

Australian sales of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and SUVs remained strong in June, despite the almost absence of the popular C-Class sedan range from showrooms as Australian customers await the arrival of the award-winning new model at the end of this month.

Strong sales from the E- and S-Class model ranges underlined the three-pointed star’s position as the luxury car of choice of choice amongst Australian buyers.

According to industry body VFACTS, the E-Class topped Australian sales in June with a market share of more than 28 percent (Large >$70K segment), achieving a commanding year-to-date market share lead of 33 percent, far ahead of its nearest rival.

In June, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class again topped the prestigious Upper Large >$100K segment, selling double the number of cars compared to its nearest rival during the month. The perennial luxury leader holds a commanding market share lead of almost 40 percent year-to-date.

Mercedes-Benz achieved almost 26 percent market share in the Small >$40K segment in June, demonstrating that the style, comfort and safety of the A- and B-Class ranges again prove popular with Australian customers. In fact, sales of the 5-door B-Class in June grew more than 50 percent compared to the same month last year with its year-to-date sales performance up almost 40 percent compared to the same period in 2006.
