Audi Australia launched its new S5 and R8 sports coupes this week at the Phillip
Island Grand Prix Circuit.
Two very different sports cars, the S5 and R8 were nonetheless both very much
at home on the Circuit, thanks to excellent weight distribution, powerful
engines and the added benefit of Audi’s class-leading quattro all-wheel-drive
technology.
The legendary seven-times Le Mans-winning Audi Sport racing driver, Tom
Kristensen, joined the launch event in Victoria in between DTM races in Europe.
In spite of the long journey, Kristensen was as much at home behind the wheel of
an Audi R8 at the event on Tuesday 2 October, as he was behind a microphone
later in the day.
Audi Ambassadors, Catherine Freeman and Alisa Camplin, also joined the event,
looking comfortable and exhilarated behind the wheel of the S5 and R8 out on the
circuit, but perhaps most of all, thanks to a fast-paced ride around the track
as passenger with Kristensen at the wheel of an R8.
Audi Australia’s motor sport drivers and quattro drive day instructors, Brad
Jones and Christian Murchison, also took part in the event.
The day ended with dinner at Comme in Melbourne and a performance by one of
the seven finalists of the Audi German Opera Award, to be judged this Sunday 7
October 2007.
