Suzuki has announced a voluntary recall on selected Liana models as part of a
global program to fix a potential problem with a retainer clip securing the gear
selector cable.
The recall only applies to the models equipped with manual transmission.
Suzuki Australia will implement a safety recall campaign to replace the
retainer clip following some reports of failure which led to the manual gear
selector malfunctioning. In the case where first gear is selected rapidly with a
high degree of force, the retaining clip may repeatedly strike the gear selector
housing bracket and could ultimately dislodge or break.
The replacement clip is of a different design that will not strike the
bracket under these conditions.
Suzuki Motor Corporation rectified this issue in production recently and
Suzuki in Australia has decided to take no risks and will replace the retainer
clips on the 3,519 affected Lianas built between January 2001 and January 2006.
Suzuki Australia is currently in the process of directly notifying owners
affected by the problem and urges customers to contact their nearest authorised
Suzuki Dealer promptly after receiving their proper recall notification advice.
Suzuki Australia Communications Manager Andrew Ellis said the clip
replacement would take about 20 minutes to complete and would be undertaken at
no cost to the customer.
Owners of affected Lianas are asked to contact Suzuki Australia’s Service
Department by phone on 1-800-251-109 or by e-mail at ‘safety@suzuki.com.au’
should they have any concerns.
The Suzuki Liana is the only vehicle affected by this recall in
Australia.
