Finally the winners of the AutoChic Car of the Year Awards for women have been announced by www.autochic.com.au, Australia’s leading automotive website for females.

With over 25,000 votes over a six-month period, the girls of Australia were asked to nominate and recommend their favourite vehicles in each of five categories most relevant to them, including the Best First Car, the Most Wanted Car, the Sexiest Girl’s Car, the Best Car for a Girl on a Budget, and the Best Car for Mums (aka the best yummy-mummy mobile).

With women now buying over 50% of all new cars, and making the final decision in 85% of all new car purchases, the awards were created to demystify the car-buying decision by involving women in the industry on their own terms.

Auto Chic’s Managing Director Kathy Hamill commented: “The results reflect a diversity in tastes and lifestyles, and has resulted in the most comprehensive guide online as to ‘what women want’ – in a car, at least!”

And The Winners Are...

Best First Car Toyota Corolla
Sexiest Girl’s Car Jaguar XK Convertible
Girl on a Budget Toyota Yaris
Most Wanted Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet
Best Yummy Mummy Holden Captiva
BP Renewables Greenest Car Fiat 500
Safest Car Renault Megane
AutoChic’s Car of Choice Kia Rondo

The Greenest Car for Women Award
BP Renewables was honoured to help choose the 2008 Autochic Greenest Car award. The decision was based on greenhouse gas emissions, fuel-economy tests, and other specifications reported by the auto manufacturers and as a result, BP Renewables is excited to announce that the Fiat 500 is this year's winner.

The Safest Car for Women Award
The Safest Car for Women was decided by automotive industry consultant, freelance journalist and features editor for Wheels magazine, and avid safety advocate, John Cadogan. His choice for the safest car is the stylish and safe Renault Megane.

According to John, “The Megane has an extremely impressive active and passive safety package at a sharp price point. It’s a very safe car that won’t break the bank. Crash-avoidance capability is part of Renault’s DNA and the Megane is extremely good at protecting you if you do crash.” The Megane has been awarded a five-star safety rating by EuroNCAP.

AutoChic’s Car of Choice
The girls at AutoChic test-drive cars on a regular basis from a female point of view, and when it came to their car of choice for the year, the decision was unanimous – the Kia Rondo! “The Rondo is great value for money, given it’s a seven-seater, and for the price, the Rondo drives like a dream,” said AutoChic founder Juliet Potter. “This is a car I would consider buying.”

AutoChic was launched by Juliet Potter (formally She Drives) who created the very first automotive website for women in Australia in 2000.
