Sydney has won the exclusive rights to host a live arena
version of the internationally acclaimed and multi award-winning BBC television
series Top Gear, Events NSW CEO Geoff Parmenter announced today.
Events NSW will work with Brand Events Australia (BEA), a joint
venture between Brand Events UK and Single Market Events Australia, to stage the
performance in collaboration with Dainty Consolidated Entertainment, Ticketek
and ACP Magazines.
Mr Parmenter said fans of the show, which has an estimated
international viewing audience of 385 million people, will be delighted that
Sydney will host the arena spectacular each February from 2009 through to 2011.
Top Gear is enormously popular around the globe and currently
there is a 19 year waiting list to join the studio audience. The program has
spawned a magazine, which has a monthly global circulation of 1.3 million. The
magazine was launched in Australia last month and achieved ACP’s highest ever
launch sales.
"We estimate ticket sales for 10 performances of the live show,
featuring UK celebrities Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, and the Top Gear
Showroom, could reach 100,000, generating a direct economic impact of more than
$10 million for NSW," Mr Parmenter said.
A spokesperson for Brand Events Australia said that after a
year of planning they were delighted that Sydney would host the first ever Top
Gear Live event in Australia.
"We’ve had strong interest from interstate and international
visitors planning to travel to Sydney in February to attend this exciting new
event. Top Gear Live promises to have the most exotic collection of prestige and
performance cars in action and on display," the spokesperson said.
Top Gear Live will be held at Sydney’s Acer Arena from February 5 to February
8, 2009. For further information about ticket sales go to ticketek.com.com
