With new looks, enhanced performance and refinement, a host of innovative features
and an impressive new interior, the new Nissan Murano is a significant evolution of the
trend-setting original.
“The first Murano was the original sporty crossover,” says Nissan Motor Co. (Australia)
Managing Director and CEO, Dan Thompson.
“The new Nissan Murano is more stylish outside than before and more luxurious inside.
“Externally, new Murano is a clear evolution of the original, but the interior is quite
different. We have changed the ambience of the cabin from sports activity to club lounge
comfort. It is just as roomy as before, but far more luxurious.
“The original Murano handled well, but the second generation version is better still. With
greater torsional rigidity, a revised suspension layout, and even more attention to noise
absorption, the new vehicle raises the dynamic stakes even higher.
“The basic engine architecture hasn’t changed, but attention to fine detail has helped
develop an engine that not only delivers more power, but does so using less fuel and
producing fewer emissions.
Changes at a glance
- Restyled, striking exterior, every external panel is new
- Sophisticated leather-clad luxurious interior
- New all-wheel drive platform, stiffer, more responsive
- Revised, more powerful 191kW 3.5 V6 engine, less fuel, less emissions
- Re-engineered Xtronic CVT gearbox, quicker and more intuitive
- Power operated tailgate, power raise rear seats (Ti model)
- Reversing camera with predictive path technology (Ti model)
Pricing
The new Nissan Murano is priced at $45,990 for the ST model and $55,890 for the Ti
model. Both come standard with the Nissan Xtronic CVT transmission.
The Nissan Murano legacy
When the original Murano was launched five years ago, it immediately found an
appreciative audience, customers who were seeking a sporting drive that also
incorporated the best elements of an SUV. In the Nissan Murano they found exactly what
they were looking for: a vehicle that ‘crossed over’ from SUV to dynamic passenger car.
More than 120,000 Nissan Murano models were sold in the life of the first generation
vehicle in more than 130 countries.
Marketing the New Nissan Murano
Nissan will build on the solid foundations created by the original Murano model and use
the launch period to reinforce awareness of this new luxury competitor.
The extremely competitive pricing of the new vehicle will help in this regard.
Growth Market
The growth of crossovers in Australia has continued strongly in recent years with close to
50,000 vehicles sold in 2008.
The arrival of the new Nissan Murano with its emphasis on design, luxury and innovation
will give Nissan an edge in a crowded market where there are many competitors and
many grades of vehicles available in varying mechanical configurations.
Nissan presents the market with a simple two-model strategy that is easy to understand
and sell. There is the choice between the five-seat all-wheel drive ST model and the fiveseat
all-wheel drive Ti model.
The strengths of the new Nissan Murano lie in its appeal to private customers who value
style and design, brand reputation and luxury features.
“Many customers are expected to be self-made professionals with a strong, distinctive
sense of style who appreciate real quality and luxury,” says Dan Thompson, Managing
Director and CEO of Nissan Motor Co (Australia).
“The new Nissan Murano will enhance Nissan’s brand identity, which along with our
launch of the dynamic GT-R Supercar, the 370Z sportscar and the Maxima prestige
sedan, will give Nissan a significant lift in Australia in 2009,” he says
