The all new BMW 1 Series is set to shake-up the luxury compact market when it hits Australian shores this month, priced below the outgoing model yet boasting new features and a significant increase in standard specification.

Pricing for the new, second-generation 1 Series will start from $36,900* for the 116i model, offering Australian customers a more than 5 percent reduction in the entry price-point to the BMW badge.

The 116i, featuring an entirely new 1.6 litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, boasts the same power output of the previous entry model, the 118i, despite using 24 per cent less fuel (5.7 litres/100km) than the comparable outgoing model.

The second petrol variant in the range, the new 118i, which also features a 1.6 litre four-cylinder turbo charged petrol engine, is priced from $42,800*.

Completing the all new 1 Series lineup is the four-cylinder diesel 118d, priced from $43,500*. Wide-ranging design modifications have enabled the punchy four-cylinder two-litre turbo-diesel engine in the new BMW 118d to build on its competitive advantage in the areas of output and fuel efficiency.

These enhancements represent the latest stage in the success story of the BMW four-cylinder diesel engine, which earned the predecessor of the new BMW 118d the title of 2008 World Green Car of the Year.

The highly-specified BMW 1 Series is also packed with standard features, delivering exceptional customer value.

Highlights across the range include a 6.5-inch free-standing flatscreen colour display, handsfree Bluetooth functionality including USB interface, MP3 compatible CD player, cruise control with brake function, auto Start/Stop function, Driving Experience Control with ECO PRO mode, keyless engine start, 6-speaker stereo system, iDrive controller and favourite buttons.

Over and above the 116i, the BMW 118i and 118d gain extra standard features including rear park distance control, storage package, two zone climate control air conditioning, anti-dazzle interior mirrior, fog lights, rain sensor and stylish 17” alloy wheels.

The new BMW 1 Series is also the only car in its segment to offer an optional eight-speed automatic transmission with the Automatic Start/Stop function. The engine is automatically shutdown during stops and restarted when the brake is released.

For the first time the BMW 1 Series will also be optionally available with Parking Assistant, Rear-View Camera and Lane Departure warning, which until now have only been available in upper-range BMW vehicles.

The all new BMW 1 Series will be avaliable in Australian showrooms from 22 October 2011.

*Manufacturer’s Recommended List Price is shown and includes GST and Luxury Car Tax (LCT) but excludes dealer charges, stamp duty, statutory charges and on-road charges which are additional and vary between dealers and States/Territories. Customers are advised to contact their nearest BMW dealer for all pricing inquiries.
