With the release of the VS Series II Statesman and Caprice, Holden once again sets the standard for locally manufactured luxury vehicles.
Retaining all the features that have won record sales for these models, the long-wheelbase Series II Statesman and Caprice are more distinctive in appearance than ever, their spacious interiors more generously appointed and equipped.
Consistent with Holden's reputation for technological leadership and innovation, these new models also offer buyers the prestige performance choice of a sophisticated, Supercharged V6 engine.
"With the kind of leadership technology that is expressed through the Supercharged engine initiative, the new Series II Statesman and Caprice will, I am certain, add further to the credentials of the Holden brand," said Holden Chairman and Managing Director, Bill Hamel.
The Series II Statesman and Caprice are distinguished by a number of subtle styling refinements. A new rear end treatment features re-designed tail lamp lenses, decor panel and badging, to further complement the flowing, integrated lines. There are stylish new grille surrounds, all-new, 16" alloy wheels and new oval side repeater lamps.
The expansive interiors for which these models are renowned also benefit from a significant number of enhancements.
VS Series II Statesman and Caprice passenger compartments are set apart by a woodgrain finish centre console and convenient fascia compartment, an extended, leather-topped console bin, and leather-trimmed gearshift and handbrake controls.
While both models are equipped with supportive new front seat cushions with a rounded edge, Statesman also offers subtly patterned new velour seat and door trim fabrics and the option of electrically adjustable front seats.
The Caprice receives new leather and woodgrain finish door trim inserts, and protective front and rear carpet floor mats. Extra touches, for both models, include chrome interior door handles and glove box cup locaters.
The boot keyhole has been removed on both Statesman and Caprice models, as an additional anti-theft measure. Access to the boot can now only be achieved by remote power key or the boot release inside the car.
Supercharged V6 Engine Option
With the VS Series II Statesman, Caprice and Calais, Holden introduces Australian luxury car buyers to a world-class performance option: the 3.8 litre Supercharged V6 engine.
An alternative to Holden's ECOTEC V6, which is standard on Statesman and Calais, and the 5.0 litre V8 that is standard on Caprice, the Supercharged V6 offers new dimensions in performance, flexibility and driving enjoyment.
The smooth, refined Supercharged V6 has the capacity to deliver extra reserves of power and torque instantly when required, yet remains remarkably fuel efficient.
Compared with the ECOTEC V6, it delivers 22 per cent increased torque (370 Nm at 3200rpm) and 12 per cent increased power (165 kW at 5200rpm).
While the economical ECOTEC V6 returns 11.5 litres/100km on the city cycle and 7.2 litres/100km on the highway cycle, the Supercharged V6, which achieves peak performance capability on premium fuel, returns 13 litres and 7.6 litres respectively (Calais).
An automatic load levelling system is now fitted as standard on Caprice and is optional on Statesman for the first time. Particularly valuable when towing, it adjusts ride height to suit varying load conditions.
The VS Series II 5.0 litre V8 engine features a new cold air induction system and a new free flowing exhaust for improved peak power and torque and quieter, smoother running.
Wheels and Tyres
The Series II Statesman and Caprice are fitted with new 16" x 7" alloy wheels and P215/60 R16 94V tyres.
VS Series II Statesman and Caprice owners continue to receive the extra benefits of the Holden Luxury Edge. The program comprises a 14 day/500 kilometre guaranteed vehicle exchange, a 2 year/50,000 kilometre vehicle warranty in addition to a 3 year/100,000 kilometre powertrain warranty and 12 months/ 20,000 kilometre free service.
Holdenwise Roadside Service "Ultra" delivers 24-hour, year-round emergency service with cover which includes accommodation, alternative transportation, rental car and Australia-wide vehicle recovery.
A new paint colour, Morocco Sand, is introduced to the VS Series II Statesman and Caprice model range. Other colour choices include Panther, Silver, Alaskan, Botanica, Genesis and Rubens.
