Stuttgart. Dr Ing hc F Porsche AG, will extend its Zuffenhausen site. Following acquisition of part of the adjacent site previously owned by "Waggon Metzger", Porsche now has the opportunity to relieve the pressure on space from which the factory has suffered for years. The Chairman of the Porsche AG Board, Dr Wendelin Wiedeking, made the announcement during the visit to Porsche of the Mayor of Stuttgart, Dr Wolfgang Schuster.
Mayor Schuster welcomed the move and expressed his delight in the positive development of the smallest independent car manufacturer in the world. He also commented on the number of new jobs that have been created recently and the unusually large proportion of apprentices within the Porsche workforce.
"It is most impressive how Porsche has succeeded in overcoming the crisis it faced at the beginning of the '90s. With the 911 and the Boxster, the company has moved back into the fast lane. Not only the company employees themselves, but also the city of Stuttgart in general will benefit," said Schuster. During his visit, the Mayor took the opportunity to tour the production facilities and to sample the new 911 Carrera.
There will also be changes in the roads around the factory following the acquisition of the "Waggon Metzger" site. According to the latest plans, Otto-Durr-Strasse, which branches off Schwieberdinger Strasse and has separated Plant I from Body Plant V, will be relocated. The road will go directly passed the "Neuwirtshaus" railway station. The new route that has been chosen for the road will make it possible for Porsche not only to re-design the area between these two plants, but also to modernise its main entrance and Customer Service Centre.
