Peugot 406 ST Upgrades

Significant upgrades to the standard specification of Peugeot's 406 ST delivering improved theft security and new interior trim have been added at no extra cost.

Now standard in the 2.0-litre 406 ST is a passively armed theft security system built around engine immobilisation to match the similarly equipped 406 STDT (turbo-diesel), 3.0-litre SV and 406 Coupe.

At the same time Peugeot has replaced the previous Sublime pattern velour trim with a new Dune design available in grey and beige.

According to Shane Priest, managing director of Peugeot Concessionaires Australia the upgrades make the 406 ST an even more attractive proposition.

"With standard immobiliser, fresh trim and an entry price unchanged at less than $40,000 the 406 ST is an outstanding prestige package"

The 406 ST's standard equipment list now includes air-conditioning, driver and passenger side airbags, ABS anti-lock brakes, electric windows, engine immobiliser, cruise control (auto only), remote control central locking, velour upholstery, a height & reach adjustable steering column and a six-speaker CD-compatible stereo.

Powered by a 100 kW, 2.0-litre, double overhead cam, 16-valve, four cylinder engine the 406 ST is available with a choice of five-speed manual ($39,995) or electronically-managed four-speed automatic transmission ($42,495).

PASSIVE IMMOBILISER

The new immobiliser system's transponder (brain) is housed in the ignition key head and the engine's primary ECU is automatically disabled when the key is removed from the ignition lock. No other driver action is required.
On start-up if the key signal is memorised in the system control module an unlocking request is communicated to the engine control unit allowing engine starting.

System components are totally interdependent making an attack on the ignition lock or any other individual part of the ignition system a futile exercise.

NRMA SECURITY RANK IMPROVED

The 406 ST's ignition lock features a hard front face to resist attack from tools. Its mounting bracket has been reinforced and consists of two parts assembled using two bolts with self-shearing heads.

The door locks are carefully designed to shear and ratchet around rather than open the door locks when forced.

NRMA Insurance Limited's Technical Research Centre in Sydney rates all new cars for theft security and the addition of a passively armed immobiliser has improved the Peugeot 406 ST's theft security rating to an outstanding 81/1 00.
