Holden has joined forces with Hot Wheels model car-maker, Mattel, to create a striking VT Commodore Supercar replica.
Unlike most scale Hot Wheels models, this SS Commodore is life size, V8 powered and will cut a dashing figure as official parade car for the 1999 Australian Grand Prix Hot Wheels V8 Supercar Showdown from 4-7th March.
Motor racing icon and Holden ambassador Peter Brock will fulfil the Hot Wheels slogan of 'Leading The Way' when he takes to the track in the hot Holden to lead a roaring pack of V8 Supercars on race formation laps.
Sporting bright blue, red and yellow Hot Wheels livery - based on Mattel's US NASCAR entrant - the customised Holden features a special Supercar race aero kit, head-turning 18 X 8 Enzo chrome reflector wheels with Bridgestone Donut SO2 tyres (worth $1800 per wheel/tyre), lowered sports suspension and Harrop Engineering high performance brakes.
Following its on-track duties at the 1999 Qantas Australian Grand Prix, the Holden Hot Wheels Supercar will be used as a course car/demonstrator at Shell Australian Touring Car Championship races throughout the year.
Mattel, through its Hot Wheels brand, is sponsoring the Australian Grand Prix V8 Supercar Showdown event for the next three years. Reinforcing it support for the V8s, the company will also produce miniature V8 replicas, including the Holden Commodore, in time for the year 2000 Grand Prix.
