V-line theme spotlights Volvo's continuing success with wagons
The stunning new Volvo C70 Convertible will be launched to the public for the first time at this year's Sydney International Motor Show when the show opens in October.
This is the first production convertible ever to have been produced by Volvo and marks a significant point in the company's history.
The new C70 Convertible is available in two variants, either the low-boost 2.4T, or the high-boost T5 and offers incredible all-over styling and luxury.
Volvo has continued its success as the leader in European luxury wagons over the past year, with sales and inquiries increasing after GST-reduced prices were introduced in July this year. The introduction of GST-reduced prices means that Volvo customers can enjoy lower prices across the Volvo range before the GST comes into effect in July 2000.
The Volvo wagon range has been enhanced and improved for 2000 with both the V70 and V40 featuring advances in safety and performance.
Volvo continues to maintain its commitment to the primary concerns of safety, quality and the environment as can be seen in the innovations within the 2000 range, including cleaner, quieter and better performing engines.
Sensational C70 Convertible makes an entrance
The introduction of Volvo's C70 Convertible to Australia is a revolutionary move for a company concerned with safety standards.
Offering a choice of either low or high boost turbo engines, coupled with safety features such as the Roll Over Protection System (ROPS) (in the Convertible) to protect passengers in the event of a rollover, the C70 Convertible and C70 Coupe are in a class of their own for performance, safety and style.
The high-pressure turbo engine which the C70 Convertible shares with the C70 Coupe develops 176 kW and 330 Nm in the 2.3 litre high boost turbo unit. The light-pressure turbo unit develops 142 kW and 270 Nm ensuring excellent acceleration.
From $92,488 the Volvo C70 Convertible features a top which raises and lowers in 25 seconds, whilst offering the same features as the C70 Coupe including a luxurious interior, state of the art Dolby Pro-Logic surround sound system with a minimum of 13 speakers, and a wide range of innovative features.
The C70 Convertible follows the introduction of the beautiful C70 Coupe in 1997. The C70 Coupe is a genuine four-seater car which offers consistent handling for perfect control on the road and shares all the qualities and dynamic equipment of the Convertible.
Both C70 Convertible and C70 Coupe dramatically emphasise Volvo's move towards a completely new range of eye-catching vehicles.
Innovations across the S40 and V40 2000 range
The S40 and V40 have been revised and are now available with four engine types from the fun new naturally aspirated 1.8 to the powerful T4 SE, offering a range of cars to suit all Volvo customers.
All four 2000 variants come standard with air conditioning, central locking and heated electric mirrors, twin child booster seats, Home Safe lighting and cabin pollen filters.
The 1.8 and 2.0 litre engines of the S40 and V40 have been refined for 2000 and now deliver better performance, lower fuel consumption, lower emissions and quieter operation for an improved drive.
All prices for the Model Year 2000 range have been GST-reduced, starting at $39,950. Standard features include:
Side Impact Protection System (SIPS)
Home Safe lighting
Larger side airbags
"Smart" front airbags with two trigger levels
Volvo's patented Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS)
Twin integrated child booster seats
Smoother, safer and more comfortable – the improved S70 and V70
The S70 and V70 have been upgraded for Model Year 2000, resulting in improved performance, economy, safety and comfort and a wide range of new features making the award winning series even better to drive.
Both cars in the series have received over 60 international awards for engineering, styling, overall design and safety since their introduction as the 850 series.
Both variants offer superior performance due to the newly revised naturally aspirated 2.4 20V engine, combined with the five speed automatic transmission.
The new engine revision means virtually all moving parts are new, resulting in numerous benefits including higher torque making the car more fun to drive, and lighter crankshaft movements for quieter operation.
All S70 and V70 variants in Model Year 2000 feature the larger SIPS side airbags to ensure additional protection to the head and the torso in a side collision. Also standard is WHIPS which reduces the rebound effect which causes whiplash injuries.
S80 advances into 2000 with greater control and added safety
The car which made its debut at last year's Sydney International Motor Show has continued to maintain its position as a strong contender in the upper luxury sector of the market.
The stunning S80 has won numerous international awards including the prestigious NRMA Luxury Car of the Year.
Available in either the 2.9 litre naturally aspirated engine or twin-turbocharged T6 SE, the S80 incorporates significant new advances for Model Year 2000 and now offers superior performance and control.
A new option for both variants of the Volvo S80 is Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) which helps to keep the car stable and on course in hazardous driving conditions.
The superb geartronic automatic transmission, which gives the choice of automatic shifting or manual override is standard on the T6 SE, and is now available as an option on the S80 2.9. It works to provide the driver with overriding manual control and a sense of added pleasure and control.
A revolutionary feature of the S80 is the Inflatable Curtain (IC), protecting front and rear passengers against head injury from side impacts.
