Daewoo Motor Corporation is announcing the appointment of Y.T. Song as new Managing Director for its Australian and New Zealand operation.
Mr Song has held a number of postings within the Daewoo Group since 1975. His most recent appointments saw him as M.D. of Daewoo Motor America West, based in Los Angeles, California as well as heading the export division in charge of African and Middle-East Markets.
Years of greatly diversified international exposure made Y.T. Song an ideal candidate for the Australian posting. Commenting yesterday on his appointment he said:
"I believe that the Australian market in particular still has an incredible unexplored potential for Daewoo. The average age of cars here is still well above the norm for Western countries. This, together with the excellent brand perception built by the local team over the last five years places Daewoo in an excellent position to tackle the next challenge: establishing outstanding service to customers while improving the intrinsic quality of our cars even further".
"Personally I feel grateful for the brand recognition we enjoy in this Market. But I also feel responsible for further reinforcing the trading ties between Australia and Korea: Daewoo Motor Corporation is already a major customer of the G.M. Holden Engine Plant in Port Melbourne as well as other raw material suppliers. I am impressed by the quality and dedication of the staff in the Australian operation and look forward to working closely with Kevin Wall who will remain as Chief Operating Officer of Daewoo Automotive Australia. His experience is vital in achieving our goal".
