The dramatic new styling of the new Maxima takes Nissan's sporty V6 sedan into the next century with style.
Maxima's bold new styling underlines the model's American market aspirations where it is marketed by the prestigious Infiniti brand as the 130 model and competes with vehicles such as the Lexus ES300 and Acura TL.
The distinctive wedge profile with fluid forms sweeping from front to rear combines with unique front and rear end treatments which highlight the jewel type flush mounted headlights and tail lights.
"It's a design which makes a polished and sophisticated statement in keeping with expectations of buyers in the Maxima's market segment," explained Nissan Australia's Marketing Manager for Passenger Cars, Mr Philip Brook.
Primary competitors in the domestic market are the Honda Accord, Toyota Vienta and Mitsubishi Verada while some will shop the Maxima against Berlina/Calais, Fairmont Ghia, BMW 3- Series, Audi A4 and VW Passat.
Nissan's stylists have given the new Maxima a luxurious, sensuous shape but with muscular overtones.
The large passenger glasshouse, steeply raked front and rear windscreens combine with new side windows to provide an enhanced panoramic and airy feel to the interior.
Maxima's elegant and refined look is accentuated by two new styles of alloy wheels.
This is further reinforced by the front grille which completes a very elegant and contemporary front end appearance. The rear end is dominated by the large, modern tail lights.
"Nissan has improved almost every aspect of the new model over its predecessor," Mr Brook said. "But clearly the most dramatic changes have been the exterior and interior styling."
