The 2000 model-year Lamborghini Diablo makes its debut at the Melbourne Motor Show today. The new price positioning of this model spearheads a new attack by Lamborghini in the top segment of the Supercar market.

New much reduced price

Compared to the 1999 model year Diablo VT Coupe, which was priced at just under $600 000, the new car has been dramatically price repositioned at $455 000, representing a price reduction of around $145 000!

This has come about as a result of a combination of factors, including revised ex factory pricing by Automobili Lamborghini in Italy, the reduction in Australian Duty from 1 January 2000, a revision of Australian margins and an improved currency situation for the Australian Dollar versus the Italian Lira.

As a result, Lamborghini now offers exceptional value for money in this top segment of the market, with a car equipped to a higher level of specification, yet coming to the market at a much reduced price.

This price repositioning also coincides with the mn-out of the SV models, previously priced in the $400 00 to $500 000 segment of the market.

Product changes

The new car is called the Lamborghini Diablo VT Coupe 6.0 and it incorporates a number of changes versus the 1999 model year car. The biggest change is the fitment of a new 6-litre V12 engine, now developing 405 kW (550 bhp), 15 kW (20 bhp) more than before.

This makes Australia's fastest car, even faster, with a top speed potential of 330 km/h and a zero to 100-acceleration time of less than 4 seconds!

Other significant changes include:

Restyled body, made mainly from carbon fibre
    Wider front and rear tracks
    Upgraded steel chassis
    Improved exhaust system
    New engine microprocessor
Redesigned interior and a new air conditioning system

As before, the VT Coupe incorporates the Electronic Suspension System, including a Lifting System, which allows the driver to raise the front of the car at the touch of a button, to make the negotiation of sidewalk ramps and car parks easier.

Unlike before, the new Diablo now also comes with its own car and seat covers, as well as a handy specially tailored 2-piece luggage set.

Leather trim is standard equipment as before, but Alcantara trim may be optionally specified, albeit with no reduction in price. The same applies to the rear wheel drive transmission as previously fitted to the SV models, which is also available as an alternative to the All-Wheel Drive Viscous Traction System, fitted to the VT as standard.

Collectors items

As a result of special efforts made by local importer, Monarch Motor Imports, a small quantity of the last 1999 model year SV Coupe and SV Roadster models are still available, these being the very last of these cars ever to be made.

The cars in question are:

    SV Coupe in Titanium
    SV Coupe in Yellow

    SY Roadster in Magic Red
SV Roadster in Super Fly Yellow

Lamborghini cars are now sold from three Dealerships, Cavalli, located at 161 Fitzroy Street, St. Kilda, in Melbourne, the Trivett Classic Garage in Sydney and from European Automobiles on the Gold Coast.
