Wayne Grady, after more than 20 years walking the fairways and greens of professional golf, is now moving faster behind the wheel of a luxurious Volvo S80 sedan.
It was 1990 when the Queenslander shot a four-round total of 282 to win the United States PGA Championship, shaking off a disappointing sudden-death playoff loss the year before at the British Open. During his long and successful professional golfing career, Grady twice won the Australian PGA Championship.
Always smiling, his cartoonish grin and gentlemanly manners have earned Grady many friends and gallery followers. Today, away from the stresses of a full-time touring pro, a very relaxed Grady is just as content to listen to the birdies as well as shoot them. Off the golf course, the S80 protects Grady and his family from demon bogeys.
Grady recently signed a long-term partnership agreement with Volvo Car Australias Managing Director, Mr Jan Eriksson.
"I couldnt have asked for a better partner," said Grady, who recently bought his wife a Volvo S40 to drive. "The S80 is a big car with room for my clubs. Im driving the T6 with all the luxury features and power, you know the one with 200kW. It goes." As a private pilot, Grady can appreciate Volvos attention to detail and design of the S80s comfortable ergonomics and advanced dynamic safety engineering.
Grady will be involved with most of the Volvo Klassik golf events as Volvos golf ambassador.
Volvo Klassik is a series of golf tournaments for Volvo customers staged in key centres around Australia and hosted by the local Volvo dealer. The winner of each tournament advances to play in the Australian final held in September. The winner of the Australian final will tee off with Volvo Klassik winners from around the world in Spain in October.
The Volvo Klassik final will be played on the same course only days prior to the prestigious Volvo Masters professional tournament.
Gradys professional career has never strayed far from the greens. He works with the Ten Network as an expert commentator during its live golf telecasts when he is not playing the world tours and designing golf courses.
Born in Brisbane, Wayne Grady ("Grades") has been a successful player on the world golf tour for the past 20 years.
