Lubricants specialist Castrol is highlighting the need for vehicle owners to specify the correct oil for their own particular engine as technology brings higher horsepower and performance benefits to the Australian market.
The latest developments in high performance small diesel engines design have brought a wealth of benefits for vehicle owners. Better performance, increased torque, longer service intervals and reduced exhaust emissions. It’s a win/win situation all round.
But these advances in engine technology require corresponding advances in lubricants to match the increased operating temperatures and pressures that lie at the heart of these new engine abilities.
According to Castrol's Marketing Manager-Transport, Lindsey Edgar, there’s a tendency amongst some service outlets to use universal oil for diesels as part of a one-fits-all mentality.
"These new high performance engines with common rail injection, higher injector pressures and tighter operating tolerances mean that more than ever before it’s important to match the right oil to the engine.
"There’s a trend amongst engine manufacturers of small capacity diesels to use lower viscosity oils with some moving towards lubricants with synthetic base fluids. Larger capacity diesel engines are staying with SAE 15W-40 higher viscosity oils while synthetic oils enable oil drain periods to be substantially extended in certain vehicle operating conditions," she added.
Castrol Dynamax is a semi-synthetic oil designed specifically with European truck technology in mind. Castrol Turbomax is a super high performance mineral-based oil that is equally at home in European or Japanese engines. Castrol RX Super is a premium engine oil that is particularly suitable for use in the new generation of American truck engines while Castrol Maxigas is designed for use with CNG and LPG engines.
"The right lubricant means the engine will perform at its best throughout its life. All it takes is a little care to make sure that Castrol protection is behind every good operator," Lindsey added.
